!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Black paint, proper GN wheels and you’ve got a cheap clone with no worries about wrecking an original.

Hmm. Need more details on that 455, besides them apparently paying over $7k for it. Could be a really strong motor or a boat anchor.
And it *really* doesn’t look like the same motor in the ad. Way too filth y.

Nice work! Seems like enough to destroy those tires pretty quickly.
But, look at the photo of the engine in the car - - either that’s a different engine, or the rebuilder doesn’t actually paint or clean up his work. Hell, the valve covers don’t even seem to match.
If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent

I think good 455HO engines will go for that much with a t rans attached so you’re basically buying a big block with a free car included.

In fact, I’m far from sure, but I think that car has an Olds 455, not Pontiac.

Valve covers appear to be 67- 72 Olds.

I think they are very misleading with that Rebuilt 455 Pontiac photo. I doubt the seller of that engine had anything to do with the engine in this car.

Olds water pump, too - - and the alternator location is also right for an Olds.

Completely agree. And leads me to suspect that it’s a boat anchor 455 with little or no mods.
If it’s even a 455. Olds blocks (like Pontiac blocks) are mostly all the same externally unless you look at stamping numbers.

See the other thread, but engine in the car ain’t no 455HO. It’s not even a Pontiac. Too bad because that would have been a lot of fun.

Wouldn’t doubt that it’s a 350, which were most common. As you said, visually they look alike, so checking the casting numbers closely will be the only way to tell what this really is.
When ever someone claims rebuilt XXX, the first thing I want to see are receipts. The receipts are the only way to substantiate what has ac tually been done.

Some impressive sleuthing going on in jalopland. I found that photo of the engine on the stand on Ebay - it’s got four valve cover bolts while the engine in the car has six. Oops.

Yup. The Poncho has 4 vc bolts but the Olds has 10. This guy’s bullshitting.

Well, it beats working, or constantly hitting refresh on the latest vote counts.
Thing is, Olds made some great engines, too - - nothing wrong with a warmed up Olds 350 or 455 in that car. Why not just tell the truth??

Turbineguy fail - Olds V8s have 10 vc bolts.
Seriously, a 455 built to the W30 spec was good for 370hp and 500 torques. I’d bet some fancy porting could get that to 400hp or better. This seller is a clown; I told him that’s not a Pontiac motor in the car. Can’t wait to hear his reply.

The fail is by the seller, not you. I was just looking for a distraction from all the other stress going on and having some fun.

Looks to be Olds factory style notched chrome valv e c overs, like these:
